What an incredible day we had on the Barrow! Our annual club row from St. Mullins to New Ross was a true showcase of teamwork, fun, and friendship. Under blue skies and surrounded by our beautiful riverside scenery, every stroke of the 18km journey was great fun for those involved.
Our junior boats used the row as a chance to test themselves and chase their best times, while the masters enjoyed a scenic row, pausing for well-earned breaks to enjoy the sights along the Barrow.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the day possible. Amy, our captain, kept everything running smoothly, while Carmel and Dave McCarthy dedicated countless hours preparing for this event. Mick Bailey delighted us with delicious salads and pasta, fueling our hungry rowers after their big effort. Our safety was in expert hands thanks to Dave Nolan, Don Cashman, Vincent Roche, and Fintan Phelan on the safety boats. Huge appreciation as well to Jane Sutton and Janey May Cashman for their skillful coxing.
“It was especially lovely to welcome John Enright along with our Club President Tom Clarkin and the first lady — moments like these remind us of the strong traditions that make our club unique.” – Sean Sutton, Chairperson
After our row, we gathered back at the clubhouse for a BBQ and awards ceremony—always a highlight! We said a fond farewell and best wishes to Kevin Phelan and Anna Brennan, recognising their years of commitment to the club.
Liam Crotty — our junior captain — was also recognised with a voucher for being a fantastic leader and role model for our junior members. Cormac Crotty received the Junior Rower of the Year award after a stellar first season, always eager to pitch in to help out and improve on his rowing.
“Thank you to Fintan and Vincent for piloting the safety boats, with a special nod to David Nolan for providing his boat and supporting Tom Clarkin and Don Cashman. Every rower—seniors, juniors, and supportive parents—helped make this day memorable.” – Amy O’Hanlon, Captain
This event is a brilliant reminder of why we love our club: camaraderie, tradition, and a love for the water. Thank you for making it all possible—we can’t wait for next year!
