Last weekend, our club had an exciting and successful first appearance at the Tullamore Time Trials hosted by Offaly Rowing Club on the scenic Grand Canal. This event marked the club’s first participation in recent years, and the experience was a huge positive, with our rowers embracing the challenge and the community atmosphere of the day.

Niamh Brennan (Bow) and Janey Cashman (Stroke) teamed up in the J15 Double Sculls (J15 2X), with Niamh rowing in the bow seat and Janey taking the stroke position. Their strong teamwork and synchronicity were evident throughout the race.
Cormac Crotty raced in the J15 Single Sculls (J15 1X), putting in a determined solo effort.
Katie Nolan competed in the J14 Single Sculls (J14 1X), showing great form and composure.
Jack Mythen rowed in the J16 Single Sculls (J16 1X), marking an impressive comeback after taking a break at the end of last season to concentrate on his Junior Certificate exams.
We are proud to share that our club achieved three first-place finishes at the event:
Jack Mythen’s return was also a highlight for the club when he exhibited power and finesse in the single skull, marking his strong return to competitive rowing.
A big thank you goes to Coach Talitha Doran whose guidance and support played a crucial role in preparing our athletes for this event. We also want to extend our gratitude to the parents and family members who attended to cheer on the rowers and provide invaluable encouragement throughout the day.

We are grateful to Offaly Rowing Club for their warm hospitality and excellent organization. The event on the Grand Canal offered perfect conditions for racing with calm water and good weather, making it a great experience for all participants. The club’s volunteers and supporters contributed significantly to the smooth running of the trials.
This was a perfect outing for our crews at this time of year, and there is strong enthusiasm among athletes and coaches to make the Tullamore Time Trials a regular feature on the rowing calendar in the years to come. The event is a wonderful opportunity to test endurance and skill over a challenging 2.25km course, and this year’s inclusion of double sculls alongside singles made the competition even more exciting.
We look forward to upcoming regattas and time trials with high spirits, confident that our rowers’ performances will continue to improve and impress.
